OzCey brings together the traditions and passions of two tea enthusiasts, who have always enjoyed the luxury of sitting down to a cuppa. Combining their strengths, OzCey was born, interlinking two cultures and exchanging knowledge, for the ultimate tea experience.
OzCey - Aussie Aussie Aussie! |
Our HeritageNaomi Nayagam brings a strong family heritage within the tea industry to OzCey, creating a solid foundation for the beautiful and delicious boutique tea brand.
Born in Sri Lanka – her great-grand father, John Nayagam, worked at Ellamulla Tea Plantation in the early 1900s, in factory operations and labour management. Her grand-father, Dwyer Nayagam, worked at Lidesdale Tea Plantation in the mid 1900s, in tea tasting, blending and production supervision, going on to establish his own tea distribution company, VanDwyer Tea. Naomi’s father Olympus Nayagam, was born at Lidesdale Tea Plantation and started his career as a Tea Creeper and Tea Taster in the early 1970s. Naomi too was born in the hill capital Nuwara Eliya and has been surrounded by tea during her early years in Sri Lanka. She brought a well-grounded value base, the Nayagam family heritage and her mother Chrishanthie Silva’s inspiration with her to Australia. Nathan Bezzant is an Australian born tea aficionado with the desire to raise the standard of the boutique tea industry in Australia. Nathan a Melbournian, brings a strong Australian family heritage of inclusiveness having lived and worked in Melbourne, Darwin and travelled vastly in Australia. |
Our Passion....Both Naomi and Nathan have a passion to support the families involved in the tea industry in Sri Lanka and families affected by the dreadful terminal illness, Cancer. Both take a personal approach to this and are committed to creating a brand that is sourced ethically from factories that are Fairtrade certified, with the return benefiting Cancer Research in Australia. The premise is about connecting families to promote wellbeing. Tea of Life, not just a cuppa. Both are Cricket fanatics, again from two families that have followed cricket across generations. A Tea Break in a game of Cricket is a must-have! Naomi and Nathan enjoys a Single Origin, strong Black tea, and invites you to join them for a cuppa or even high tea with exquisite OzCey teas. |
